In short
- Card payments: through MAIB, MICB and Victoriabank
- Payment services and wallets: Paynet, Bpay
- Without online payment: bank transfer or cash on delivery
- Card payments need a contract with the bank and a site that meets its requirements
Shoppers in Moldova pay online more and more, but many still choose cash on delivery. A good store offers both. Here are the options, how to choose and what to prepare so the bank approves the connection.
Which payment methods exist
Card payments through a bank
The method customers expect most. The customer enters their card details on the bank’s secure page, and the money goes to the company’s account. In Moldova we connect card payments through MAIB, MICB and Victoriabank. Each bank has its own contract, fees and technical documentation.
Paynet and Bpay
Local payment services many customers already use for bills and shopping. They’re a good addition to card payments, especially for customers who don’t want to enter card details on a site.
Bank transfer and cash on delivery
Paying by invoice is standard for B2B clients. Cash on delivery remains popular for small orders and with new customers who don’t yet trust the store.
How to choose a payment processor
- The bank you already use. The process is usually faster where the company already has a current account.
- Fees. Compare the per-transaction fee and any monthly charges — the bank gives you the exact figures.
- Settlement time. How quickly the money reaches your account after payment.
- Refunds. How easily you can return money when a customer cancels.
- What your customers prefer. Some care about card payments, others about Paynet or cash on delivery.
What the site needs
Before enabling card payments, the bank checks the site. Requirements vary, but they usually include:
- company details: name, IDNO, legal address, phone and email;
- clear prices in lei and complete product descriptions;
- terms and conditions, delivery and returns policies;
- a privacy policy;
- a secure connection (HTTPS) across the whole site;
- the logos of the accepted payment systems.
When we build a store, we prepare these pages and the structure from the start, so the check passes without extra rounds.
Which documents to prepare
- the contract with the bank or payment processor;
- the company’s registration documents;
- texts for terms, delivery and returns — if you don’t have them, we help with the structure.
Frequently asked questions
Can I offer several payment methods at once?
Yes, and it’s recommended: card payments, Paynet or Bpay and cash on delivery cover almost every customer.
How long does connecting payments take?
We do the technical part in a few days. The contract and the bank’s check take the longest, so we start them in parallel with development.
